Healing

Nothing has helped me more over the last 7 years than this beautiful album, written to calm the anxious soul. Tracks 1, 3, 6 and 7 of Moby’s “Long Ambients” are must listen.

Like a lot of people I started Headspace at the start of the pandemic. I’d flirted with it off and on, but the pandemic gave me reason to commit to mindfulness and meditation and I found a bonus in this wonderful track to fall asleep to. I’ve fallen asleep to it about half the time this year.

When I was at my lowest point over the last 7 years Matt Haig’s “Reasons to Stay Alive” reminded me that I wasn’t alone and that deep pain is temporary.

Ambient music, overall, has helped to calm my overactive mind and my overactive nervous system. Brian Eno was an innovator in this field, but Moby, as mentioned before, has picked it up the baton and done some amazing work. “Overland”, released with his Hotel Ambient album is one of my favorites. I find almost all of his work in this genre to be compassionate and beautiful.

If you struggle with noise sensitivity, Acoustic Sheep’s SleepPhones are your friend. Especially if you sleep with a partner.

Pema Chodron’s Audiobooks have been invaluable for me when I need to focus on taking care of my soul and my mind.
